"The Olympic Games, once considered the pinnacle of athleticism and fair play, have become a cesspool of greed, backroom deals and the wholesale trampling of civil liberties. In Vancouver, preparations for the 2010 Games have had a substantial negative impact on the environment and have resulted in the 'economic cleansing' of the poor and homeless.

Where there's a Zil there's a way
July 29 - Special "Games Lanes" will be introduced on key roads to speed athletes and officials to the 2012 London Olympics, plans launched today have shown.
The lanes will be in addition to the Olympic Route Network (ORN) which will be roadwork free, cover 2.5 per cent of London's roads, will be used by 82,000 people and cost around £25 million.

The Fire burns on - Vancouver Anti-Olympics Torch on its way to London
Itchy the Bedbug, one of Vancouver's Poverty Olympics' anti-mascots, was present when Vancouver anti-Olympics activists handed over their Anti-Olympics Torch to Elizabeth Hogg from the London Coalition Against Poverty. The handover, the first stage in the torch's journey to London, took place next to the Olympic Cauldron in Jack Poole Plaza.

They can't keep politics out of sport
In Beijing it was Tibet and Human Rights. In London it may be Women in Sport and Palestinian Rights.
Women's rights campaigners are threatening protests against Saudi Arabia at London 2012 if they don't include women in their team and Palestinian artists, trade unionists, teachers, writers, film-makers and non-governmental organisations have called for a ban on Israel participating at London 2012, see the Games Monitor Discussion Group for recent press articles.

London 2012: one big party or one big prison?

Security precautions for London 2012 include the construction of a 17.5 km, 5,000volt electric fence, topped with 900 daylight and night vision surveillance cameras spaced at 50 metre intervals. On first sight of the fence you could be forgiven for thinking you had slipped through a wormhole in the space-time continuum to find yourself on the perimeter of a Soviet era Gulag.
