New London Olympics site security fencing appears
Article | 2012 Construction | Security
The Berlin Wall-style gradual enhancement of the Olympic Park perimeter has advanced again recently.
This could be some sort of trial section or the start of a program of replacement which will continue along the boundary.
There are two variations of the new fencing here, fine welded-mesh which is at least 50% higher than the existing barrier, and a type topped with a grid of 15 wires on insulators that presumably will be electrified.

A few days later an additional low barrier of metal panels appeared in front.

We are clearly moving out of the cuddly phase when the ODA could claim the endless, windowless fencing was there for "health and safety reasons, primarily ... With demolition work on the Olympic Park accelerating it is essential we install hoardings around the site to protect the safety of local residents and our workforce."

More 'security'
Further measures to increase the security and safety of the Olympic Park, which will be phased in during the course of this year, include the replacement of the temporary hoardings that currently surround the Olympic Park with a more substantial perimeter fence starting later this year; and procurement is underway of both a vehicle and people screening contractor, access control systems and a package of perimeter security systems and functions.
The ODA hopes to appoint an access control systems contractor by the autumn with the systems up and running by early 2009, a vehicle and people screening contractor next year ready to start work on site, and a provider of perimeter security systems and functions by early 2009.
During the cleaning and clearing of the Olympic Park an interim security guarding service has been provided by contractors and overseen by the ODA.
