World Wetlands Day NLLDC walk
Lammas Lands Defence Committee Winter Walk 2008 - Saturday 2nd February
The Lammas Lands Defence Committee warmly invite all members, supporters and friends to join us on World Wetlands Day for a walk across Walthamstow Reservoirs and Marshes.
2.15pm at entrance to Thames Water reservoirs Fishery Centre opposite the Ferry Boat Inn, Forest Road, Walthamstow N17 (between East River Lea and Coppermill Stream, tube Blackhorse Rd, buses W4, 230, 123). (The pub offers real ales, good wines, meals and bar snacks - children welcome)
A short afternoon stroll to mark the internationally-designated World Wetlands Day, which takes place each year on 2nd February and is celebrated worldwide.
Come and see the Marshlands and Wildlife! - Twitch to your heart's content!
Please join us as we cross the reservoirs to Walthamstow Marshes and walk beside the Old (tidal) River Lea to the Waterworks Visitors' Centre at Lea Bridge Road, where there is the option to visit Essex Filter Beds Nature Reserve (free entry). (buses 48, 55, 56).
Please note this is not a circular walk! but it is quite short, only about 2½ miles.

nb: The walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. No dogs are allowed in the reservoirs or the Essex Filter Beds, as these are bird sanctuaries. No bicycles or children under 8 years are allowed in the reservoirs area (these are Thames Water safety requirements). However, people bringing dogs or small children can join us at the Coppermill Lane reservoir entrance, at approximately 3.00 p.m. Please let NLLDC know in advance if you wish to do so, and we will meet you there - ring 0790 415 9398. Some of the route may be very wet and therefore WELLINGTONS OR STOUT ABOVE-ANKLE WATERPROOF FOOTWEAR IS MANDATORY - you will not be permitted to join us if wearing unsuitable footwear.
