Health

that's a wrap then

On twitter from @LONDON2012:

LOCOG has chosen US-based silicone textile producer Dow Corning to sponsor the 2012 Olympic Stadium wrap

Perhaps no surprise since Dow remain one of the IOC's TOP sponsors, who'll no doubt be wanting to remind us of their continuing obligations and responsibilities to the people of Bhopal.

2012 promoters' new discovery - no health benefits

The watchdog which never barks the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 has suddenly realised that it is unlikely London 2012 will deliver any health benefits just as the Guardian reports the government is about to abandon its Olympic legacy pledge of inspiring one million more people to play sport. "We've looked for evidence of previous Olympic Games or other major sporting events having an impact on health and sport participation and there isn't any tangible evidence," said the Commission's Shaun McCarthy.

Will public services cope in 2012?

A third of customer services managers surveyed by the Institute of Customer Services say they expect London's public services to fail during the 2012 Games. I am not sure if they have taken into account the possibility that the Games will not attract the expected number of tourists and that many small businesses may take a holiday to avoid the Olympic fallout, thereby reducing the numbers moving around London.

Delhi Commonwealth Games village 'unfit for athletes'

Scotland's Commonwealth Games team have said accommodation allocated to them in the Games village in Delhi was "unsafe and unfit for human habitation." Team Scotland were reallocated finished accommodation after complaining to the Games organising committee - but even the new apartments required "serious cleaning and maintenance" to bring them up to Games ready standards.

Not only but also in Nigeria

We're now all quite familiar with the fact that Mega Events invariably go way over budget. insideworldfootball has the latest, revealing FIFA under-17 World Cup cost more than double the budget

Time bomb in an athlete's mouth!

Ouch! Elite athletes get toothache like the rest of us. In fact they may have worse teeth than most. Dentist Tony Clough says: ‘A major, or key, problem is dehydration and rehydration. Athletes use sugary, acidic drinks for rapid rehydration and this obviously impacts on their oral health so we are offering fluoride mouthwash advice, too. I learned from Vancouver that you’ve got to look inside an athlete’s mouth and ask the question, is there anything in here that’s a time bomb?

World Cup delivers binge benefits

I take it back. There really are benefits from Mega Sports Events. "The World Cup has certainly been a benefit to Britain's beer sector and we can now hope that the market is starting to turn a corner," said the British Beer and Pub Association chief executive Brigid Simmonds.
