Opportunities lost - if Boston gets the Olympics
It's a question being asked more and more about the Olympics. $20billion? Is it really worth it? For three weeks? Yeah, it's a lot! What could we get for that money? Jobs, health care, elderly care, roads, education, homeless shelters, affordable housing... NoBostonOlympics videos of Bostonians talking back about lost opportunities, lack of transparency in the bid, thumbs down to Boston2024....

Tube miracle worker off to Sydney
London Tube boss Howard Collins has got a job running railways Down Under. The Standard describes him as the 'Tube boss credited with making the trains run on time during the Olympics'. If they expect Mr Collins to repeat the miracle of making the trains run on time in Sydney then they can look forward to apocalyptic warnings about how the system is about to crack up and they'd all be better off walking, getting on their bikes, staying at home, anything but travelling by train!

An accidental cycling legacy?
On 1st August a cyclist, Dan Harris, was killed by a bus coming from the Olympic Park at a spot near where TfL had made alterations to the road markings for cyclists on account of the Olympics. Not only had London 2012 failed to provide simple safe routes for cyclists to enter or circumnavigate the Olympic Park during the Olympics, it closed key cycle routes like the Greenway and, just before the Olympics began, the critical towpath on the west side of the Park which was shut without warning for reasons of security forcing cyclists onto busy roads. Local protests were, of course, simply ignored.

Barking Mad Road Hazard
Nearly crashed into back of a Spanish Olympic Team's BMW today in Morning Lane when it stopped in the middle of the road when turning right out of Ponsonby (whoops Ponsford!) Street into Morning Lane. I pulled up next to it at the next set of lights and asked what happened. They said that after they turned into Morning Lane the light was red. Actually that was the light stopping the traffic in Morning Lane to allow them to turn right!

VIP Lanes: we'll take the low road and they'll take the VIP lanes
By Mike Wells, posted 16th February 2012, edited 17th Feb 2012
For security reasons there will be no commercial flights within 18 miles of the Olympic stadium for the duration of the Games. This will mean that VIPs and heads of state will not be able to use their preferred mode of transport - the helicopter - they will have to slum it with the rest of us on the roads.
