London's 2012 Olympics and Durban's 2010 World Cup.

Space MM4 on Sun 30th 16:30-18:30

In July 2012, the Olympic Games will take place in London's East End. The success of the UK's Olympic bid has precipitated immense corporate 'redevelopment' in London, setting precedents that can be rolled out across the country. The chosen modes of 'redevelopment' entail gentrification and privatisation, all conducted at an accelerated rate that would have been impossible without the stimulus of the Games. The global 'Olympic movement' is increasingly being dominated by Multinational corporations. Currently, worldwide partners for the London Games include corporations such as Coca Cola and McDonald's, while the official partners include BP, BA and EDF
